Here is a wall of text copypasta from a post I made after the San Bernardino shooting, that I update periodically. THIS IS MY OWN OPINION AND DOES NOT REFLECT THE OFFICIAL POSITION OF THE NRA First off, we don't have a "murder epidemic" by any stretch of the imagination. Our murder rates are down by nearly 50% since 1993 and violent crimes are down by around 75%. Our 5 year rates aren't bad either: WE MUST DO SOMETHING! If you don't want more gun laws, what do we do? My alternative? I'm glad you asked: I understand the desire to do something against mass shootings, but let's not assume that "doing something NOW!!!! " is always the best option. Use your head and do something that will make a difference - even the White House admits that the proposed legislation wouldn't have stopped the San Bernardino shooting: Let's emphasize that: In response to a mass shooting where the shooters weren't on a secret no-fly list & had been background checked, & even had been investigated by the FBI the Obama administration suggested Universal Background Checks & using the No-Fly list to prevent gun sales as a solution.
